Wherever you live in Colorado, getting yourself heard in Washington should include direct contact with your Senators and Representative. But of course, they are very busy people — so you’ll have to work to get some of their attention.
There are pros and cons to any communication approach. But most advice from current and former Congressional staffers indicates that some work better than others, in generally this descending order:
- Town hall meetings are the very best — you can bypass all the bureaucracy, and hopefully get some face time with your Senator(s) and / or Representative.
- Phone calls are the next best appproach — calls can’t be easily ignored or skimmed, and trends are tracked by staffers.
- A hard-copy letter takes time to get to a politician, but will be read more closely than an on-screen email.
- An email is quick and efficient, but tends to just get scanned.
